4th of July Weekend Ideas

There are lots of things your family/children can do together besides bbqs, fireworks, and big family gathering. While you're busy prepping for the big fireworks, here are some activities you can keep your kids occupied with in the day!

1. School House Rock - Election Edition: You can purchase the School House Rock DVD from Amazon, Barnes + Noble, Borders, Target, and so on. It has a great series of songs/cartoons that teach your kids what the 4th of July is about, the preamble, a bill, and many other subjects related to the constitution of the United States. Your kids will love it and will soon be singing along in no time! The video below is a preview of what some of the songs/cartoons look like!

2. Teacher Lesson Plans: For all educators out there, check out the LFEI + LRE WEBSITE where you will find fun lesson plans and games for Kindergarten through Highschool-aged kids. For parents, here's a sample of one of their fun games: Branches of the Government game.

3. Fun Books for 4th of July for your Kids:

4. DVD Movie - A More Perfect Union: America Becomes a Nation. This has got to be one of the best-made movies about the creation of the constitution and America as a real nation of its own. It will be a great family night movie to watch together and discuss with your kids. You can purchase it for a mere US$7.99 on Amazon!
5. City Tours: I was in Philadelphia two summers ago and went on a city tour through Duck Tours. It was extremely fun and insightful and was a great way to check out America's historical sites. Check out these websites - Historic Tours of America, Historic Philadelphia, The History Place to find about tours and sites you can take your family on!

Well...that was a chockful of activities you can do with your family for this 4th of July! Have a great 4th!!
